Could this nostalgic ‘magic from childhood’ design be based on The Skipping Girl…affectionately known in Melbourne as Little Audrey? The first animated neon sign in Australia. Originally erected to promote Skipping Girl Vinegar in 1936, and updated to a smaller version in 1970, today she's a bright and shining reminder of times past (see last image). This unseen before heavyweight fibreglass and metal Vintage floor lamp depicts a life size little girl in mid jump. Little Audrey looks to be levitating… as if by magic the artist suspended the skipping motion using a rigid metal jump rope.
